Milkmade Ice Cream: my monthly dose of heaven
It was one of those bittersweet weeks that seemed to move at a tortoise's pace. Bitter: on Tuesday, I learned that an acquaintance of mine (and ex-boyfriend of one of my best friends) had passed. Sweet: on Thursday, after a 3-month sabbatical, I rekindled communications with one of my best male buddies. And by Friday, all I wanted to do after-work was curl up on my sofa, watch all of the DVR'd TV shows that I had missed during the week, and eat ice cream.
Luckily for me, I had received my hand-delivered pint of Milkmade Ice Cream on Tuesday evening. Instead of immediately diving in to the frozen treat, I chose to restrain my ravenous sweet tooth until Friday night, when I could lose myself in a Lifetime movie and a champagne flute filled with bubbly, pink rose.
For the month of May, Milkmade offered its customers a choice of either "Mint Chocolate Brownie," or "Honey-Lavender Granola" (ice cream). Never a big fan of mint, I chose the latter. In an effort to pace myself, I scooped a very conservative amount of the homemade ice cream in to a dainty glass dish, as opposed to eating it directly from the pint.
Prior to my first bite, I think I was expecting much more of a perfume-y after-taste from the lavender. Fortunately, the flavor of the honey proved to be dominant. The sweet and salty, toothsome granola added a playful texture and, in a strange way, tricked my mind in to thinking that what I was eating was "healthy." And, before I knew it, midway through "Fifteen and Pregnant," I managed to consume the entire pint.
